General Details

ALTITUDE AWARENESS
Altitude sickness can ruin your visit! One of the best ways to avoid it is to drink lots of water! Start drinking lots of water BEFORE you enter a high altitude zone. (A gallon a day for a couple days before you travel and on the day of travel is idea. Start today! And once you arrive, keep the hydration going strong.) Golden is 5,675 feet above sea level. Be aware that alcohol will affect you more quickly at higher elevations than at lower elevations. You may also feel fatigued more quickly than you do at lower elevations. (You may want to purchase Altitude Rx and begin taking it the day before you fly to Colorado and throughout your stay here. Your teacher welcome packet will provide you with a few of these handy items.)

Weather in Golden, CO

The weather in Colorado is unpredictable! It can be very warm and sunny, or it can deliver one of Colorado’s infamous Spring snowstorms! Be prepared for anything! Bring layers and shoes that can survive a little snow, just in case. Don’t be afraid: Colorado receives 300+ days of sunshine each year, so even after a bit of snow, the Colorado sun always shines through! WHEN YOU ARRIVE
Your Elevation Ambassador will be waiting for your call or text when your plane lands and when you receive your luggage. If you arrive with enough time before your first class, your ambassador is instructed to take you to the health food store on the way to your hotel, unless you choose not to go. The Whole Foods is along the route: https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/colfax

ACCOMMODATIONS
Your room has been reserved at the Table Mountain Inn. www.TableMountainInn.com The room reservation is in your name and on our credit card. Located .8 miles from the Golden Community Center and a few blocks from the show venue. They have a restaurant downstairs and 1 block from a Starbucks AND a local coffee shop.

THE EVENT VENUES
#1: Dance Workshops, registration, vending & show venue –
American Mountaineering Center (AMC): 710 10th Street, in downtown Golden
Large banquet room with low carpeting. Small carpeted stage riser. Windows, no mirrors.
The shows will be held in the upstairs “Foss Theater”

#2: Dance Workshops–
Golden Community Center (GCC): 1470 10th Street, in downtown Golden
Large room with wood floors. Small carpeted stage riser. Lots of windows, no mirrors.

#3: Hosting Hotel:
The Table Mountain Inn (TMI): 1013 Washington Ave, also in downtown Golden.

(The Community Center is a recreation facility. For about $7 per day, you are welcome to use their facilities, which include a pool, hot tub, work out equipment, kids’ areas, etc!)

TRANSPORTATION TO & FROM CLASSES
Your ambassador is scheduled to take you to your classes and return you to the hotel afterward. (There is also a very nice walking path from the hotel to the Golden Community Center, which runs along the creek. This is less than 1 mile and if the weather is nice, it’s a lovely walk. Just be sure to let your ambassador know if you choose to walk instead of ride.)

Your ambassador will ask you about your pick up preferences for your classes. She will also send you a text to confirm the time and place for each pick up.

TEACHER VENDING
Teachers may vend outside of the classrooms before or after your class. We will have a teacher’s table and your Ambassador is your assistant.
Please do not vend INSIDE the class rooms.
You may vend Saturday night at the show on the “teacher vending table”. We will provide a helper to watch your goods during the Saturday night show. Please make it easy on this person by tagging your goods with prices and providing a register book and a bank if you want them to handle this for you.

ACTIVITIES & SHOWS

THURSDAY NIGHT SHOW: Profusion Doors 7:30pm
WHERE: American Mountaineering Center 710 10th St. Upstairs
WHEN: Thurs 5/3: Doors 7:30; Show 8:00pm
WHAT: There are 3 headlining teachers in this show which mostly highlights our amazing Elevation Participants.
WHY:Teachers are provided a free ticket & seat to this show, we hope you will support the Elevation dance community.

FRIDAY MORNING TEACHER SOCIAL AT CAFE 13
WHERE: Cafe 13- 1301 Arapahoe St
WHEN: Friday 9-11am
WHAT: We have a room reserved for the Elevation 2018 teachers, a little fruit and tea
WHY: Every year, some of us wish for a time to connect to all the other teachers, when there is not something else going on. This is it! 2 hours, with no classes going on, no shows, just a short time out to say hi, grab a coffee, tea, breakfast or some fruit. Please plan to take this time to visit.

FRIDAY EVENING: GATHERING OF THE TRIBES- community dinner, social and roundtables
WHERE: Jolynn’s Underground, 1224 Washington Ave
WHEN: Friday evening 7-10pm
WHAT: Community connection time. Dancer round table discussions. Games, shenanigans, live music & dancing
WHY: Our community is the most important part of the event. We are choosing to actively cultivate more of it.
DINNER? Yes, Jolynn’s serves food and drinks. You can grab a table as early as 5pm, or just come for the activities or live music.
What to WEAR: Elevation shirts/jackets/bum wraps if you have them from any past years!

SATURDAY NIGHT GALA SHOW
WHERE: American Mountaineering Center 710 10th St. Upstairs
WHEN: Thurs 5/5: Doors 7:30; Show 8:00pm
WHAT: Showcase of the Elevation 2018 teachers and a few special guests
WHY: You are IN IT! Thank you 😉

STAGE SPECS
The stage is 11′ deep by 24′ wide, has a wood floor, and you may enter the stage from either side.

We have attached the schedule to this email and there will also be a copy in your Welcome Packet.

Please keep in mind we have only 10 minutes between most classes, so be prepared to move OUT of the classroom immediately after your class for any autographs, pictures, sales of merchandise, or attention you plan to bestow upon your adoring crowds. You will receive a ’10 minute’ signal when you have 10 minutes left in your class.
