Carrie Meyer

Carrie Bio Photo-4x6

Carrie Meyer, owner of The Dancers Eye – Fine Bellydance Photography, began bellydancing in 2001, little did she know at the time that this was just the beginning of a love affair with dance for her that has now spanned a decade. During this time, she has studied traditional Egyptian, folkloric, ATS and ITS, and has danced in groups that have featured all of these styles. Regardless of the photographic subject matter, Carrie’s work shares certain commonalities. The clarity of the images represented, thoughtful composition, and the meaning of the moments in time that she captures characterize her work. The foundation of her work builds out from the strength and power of the basic images, and the personality, of her subjects. Having married her love of bellydance with her love of photography, Carrie offers her dancer subjects a unique opportunity to work with an artist who truly understands the dance, and how dancers want themselves to be portrayed. Carrie is a staff photographer for Fuse, and her work has been featured on the covers and pages of Fuse, Jareeda, Zagareet, The ATS Magazine and Yallah.

Rachel Brice

Gina Grandi

Rachel Brice first fell in love with belly dance when she saw the famous Hahbi’Ru in the early nineties. When she saw gorgeous, proud men and women with strong carriage and charisma adorned with spectacular antique tribal jewelry, facial tattoos, and rich textiles, it changed the way she saw beauty.

She started classes in American Cabaret style right away. In the early 2000s while studying dance in college, she studied American Tribal Style® Belly Dance, African Haitian, Flamenco, Modern
Dance, Kathak, and Odissi Classical. At this time she was also in Jill Parker’s Ultra Gypsy, the first Tribal Fusion troupe. Her style began to be influenced by the various forms she was studying. She also began to dance with Mardi Love, one of her biggest aesthetic influences.

In 2001 she was discovered by rock mogul Miles Copeland and toured for five years with his company, Bellydance Superstars. In 2001 Rachel also formed the Indigo Belly Dance Company, where she had the great pleasure to collaborate with her friends, Michelle Campbell, Janice Solimeno, Ariellah, Sharon Kihara, and later, Mardi Love and Zoe Jakes. These tours sparked a global interest in this very San Francisco style of belly dance, known as Tribal Fusion, which has gone on to grow, change and evolve.

Today, Rachel studies belly dance with her teachers Carolena Nericcio, creator of American Tribal Style®, and yoga with Gary Kraftsow. Whenever possible, she takes classes with her colleagues.

When not teaching on the road, she lives in Portland Oregon where she’s opened a studio, Datura, an online studio, Datura Online and has begun a production company, Little Scarab with her partner, Sol Crawford. Together they’ve created a belly dance training program called the 8 Elements™ Approach to Belly Dance. Someday they hope to own a dog and tend a garden. www.RachelBrice.com

Silvia Salamanca

OFE14_SaGa_0529 sign

Silvia Salamanca is an internationally acclaimed performer and instructor from Mallorca, Spain. A life-long dancer, she graduated at the age of nineteen as a major in ballet and performed professionally as a modern dancer in major Europe festivals with the contemporary dance company of the University of Barcelona. She started her career as a belly dancer in 2001, when realizing the enormous benefits that this art-form brings to women in both body and soul. In her own studio, she keeps observing how women can get closer to their self identity and discover oneself in a new level, increasing self-esteem, and getting deeply in touch with the feminine essence in their soul through bellydance. As a natural evolution in her journey, Silvia discovered tribal fusion in the USA and combined it with a deep research into her own cultural roots: Spanish gypsy and Arabic. Hence with her work in the field of Zambra Mora (spanish gypsy-oriental dance fusion) Silvia gained international recognition and is currently invited to teach workshops and perform as a headliner in major festivals world-wide.

Silvia is also known for her work dancing with swords, which she feels depicts the strength of women. In order to reach as many students as possible, Silvia is proud to present 2 instructional Zambra Mora DVDs “Spanish gyspy passion” and “Fire of the Spanish Gypsies”. Silvia is also the director of Shunyata Belly Dance, a nationally awarded tribal fusion company and a proud member of Urban Gypsy,
Houston’s premiere ITS troupe.  www.SilviaSalamanca.com
